BRIAN HARRIS
PRESIDENT

 

DEBRA NOTARO-VICE PRESIDENT

Debra began her association with the YMCA doing swim classes with her toddler son Jeffrey who is 44 years old. She continued on to be a member of the CATS swim team competing in districts and regionals. Supporting the team parents group, she further pursued assistance for all YMCA programs. When asked to become a member of the Board of Directors, she agreed and has been an active member of this organization since then. Debra’s career as a classroom teacher in Medford spans more than 20 years. The focus for her has always been the welfare and well-being of children. Now as a grandmother of two, who both swim and one who got his start at the Somerville YMCA, she understands the importance of providing vital support services to the youth and their families. She takes pride in her role on the YMCA Board.

 

SANDRA MCGOLDRICK-TREASURER

 Sandra McGoldrick is President and CEO of Winter Hill Bank, a $430,000,000 Million Dollar community bank headquartered in Somerville, Ma.  She also serves on the Board of Directors & Executive Committee of the Bank and nationally serves on the Board of Directors of Pentegra Services, Inc.  Sandra has lived in Somerville her entire life and has held numerous positions in business and community affiliations.  She also served as Chair of the Somerville Chamber of Commerce and the Somerville YMCA and currently is a Board & Building Committee Member of the Y.  She holds a B.S. in Business Administration from Northeastern University.

 

JOSUE VELNEY-SECRETARY

Josu’e Velney is the Owner/CEO of Velney Development LLC, a VBE & MBE certified real estate development company based in Somerville, MA. He is responsible for conducting feasibility analysis, financial modeling, and acquisitions. He currently oversees residential projects ranging from 1 to 230 units, with projects ranging from $1M to $120M. Josu’e also serves as the Owner/Construction Manager of Velney Construction LLC, ensuring quality control, workplace safety, and subcontractor selection. 

        Before his entrepreneurial ventures, Josu’e served as a Lieutenant/EMT for the City of Somerville Fire Department and in the United States Marine Corps. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Building Construction Management from Wentworth Institute of Technology, where he graduated with Cum Laude honors. Josu’e received Wentworth Institute of Technology’s Alumni Entrepreneurship Award in 2023, was recognized in Boston Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 and received Governor’s Citation Recognition in 2022.

THOMAS BENT

President & CEO of Bent Electrical Contractors, Inc. which he founded in 1979, is a full service union electrical contractor (IBEW Local 103) servicing the diverse electrical needs of a wide range of clients including many of the Greater Boston’s commercial, industrial, educational and healthcare institutions.

      Tom has been very involved in the City of Somerville serving on many City Boards and Committees.  He is currently representing Mayor Katjana Ballantyne and the Inner Core Cities as a Board Member of the Boston Region Metropolitan Planning Organization. Tom also serves on the Winter Hill Bank Board of Directors, Chair of the Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee, Chairman of the Somerville High School CTE Advisory Board, Board Member on Saint Louis and Zelie Martin Parish Finance Council and serves on the Saint Theresa School Board.

       Tom along with his wife Roseanne are the parents of two wonderful daughters and are grandparents of four exceptional grandchildren.

DAVID R. LEIBOVITZ

Dave grew up in Winthrop, MA and is a graduate of Winthrop High. Dave did a brief stint at Northeastern University but identified a more expedient path towards realizing his vision to become an entrepreneur. Ran a very successful Commercial Laundry business in Somerville for over 60 years. During his free time, Dave was involved in many organizations as a volunteer including Somerville Lions and the Chamber of Commerce. Dave enjoys watching a variety of sports during his free time.

RONELSON LOVAINCY

Ronelson grew up in Somerville, and has a strong connection to the community. Ronelson graduated from Wester New England University while being an active participant on the basketball team. He’s been a YMCA member since he was 13, an employee, and now a board member. As an employee for a footwear brand, he mentors aspiring students, who are looking to get into the footwear industry. He’s also dedicated many years volunteering his time to ref and coach youth programs within the Somerville and Malden communities. During his free time, he enjoys spending quality time with his spouse and child.

 

THOMAS MACONE

Tom is a Principal of Capital Hall Partners located in the Boston office.

       Tom has over twenty-nine years in real estate development.  He has developed single-family subdivisions, multi-family housing and commercial and industrial projects, representing over 2.0 million square feet.  Thom’s strength is in identifying, analyzing, permitting, developing and marketing projects throughout New England.   His discipline and ability to work with people at all levels of local, State and Federal government are a large part of his success.

       Prior to the start of his development career, Tom was a police officer in Somerville, MA for twelve years, the community he was born and raised in.   During that time, he became one of the most decorated officers in the history of the department, receiving numerous awards, including the Medal of Honor.  Tom retired after being shot twice in the line of duty.   He has carried into real estate development the same discipline, determination and energy that made him such a highly decorated police officer.

       In his spare time, Tom still runs the “Cops & Kids” program at the Somerville Y.  Over the past thirty plus years he has mentored thousands of kids.  He resides in Stoneham with his wife Debbie and daughters Jenna and Janelle.

 

PEARL J. MORRISON

Pearl J. Morrison was raised and educated in Somerville, followed by a career in education from 1960-2001, retiring as a Supervising Principal of a K-8 School of Science and Technology.  Pearl sponsors an annual Pearl P. Morrison Scholarship Award for High School Graduates who formerly attended the school.

          Pearl has always been an advocate for children, family and community access to a quality education, fair housing, safe neighborhoods, equitable health resources and safe recreational facilities. In this endeavor, She has served on the Boards of the Cambridge Health Alliance, Elizabeth Peabody House, Harvard University Principal Center, Arlington Historical Society, the African-American Society of Arlington, the Arlington Civil Rights Committee, and presently serves on the Mystic Valley Area Branch of the NAACP, the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr Annual Birthday Celebration Committee, where she is one of the founding members, and the Deaconate Board of the Peoples Baptist Church of Boston. She also serves as a member of the Superintendent’s Diversity Advisory Committee of the Arlington Public Schools.

         Pearl is married to Garfield E. Morrison, Jr, Retired Deputy Superintendent of the Cambridge Police Department. They have 2 children, 3 grandchildren and 10 great – grandchildren.  Pearl enjoys when her family shares their time in celebration of joyous milestones or spends time with her to bake cookies or create books.

Pearl was raised to believe and live by – Do unto others as you want to be done unto you and To much is given much is expected of you to give in return. Pearl tries her best to live each day following these lessons of humanity.

NANCY TRANE

Nancy is a life long Somervillian who started attending the Y as an elementary school student. She enjoyed splash parties with her Girl Scout Troop  and as a young mother she kept in shape by attending calisthenic class, aerobic dance and jogging.

       Nancy applied and worked at the Y in the Tiny Tots camp for children three to six years old. Her children came to work with her everyday. She was honored once for unbroken membership for many years.  Shortly after her employment at the Y, Nancy was asked to join the Board of Directors so you can say she never left as she is still serving on the board today.
