SOMERVILLE, Mass. – The Somerville YMCA is pleased to announce it has received a $1,250 Community Grant from Eversource to support its Summer Enrichment Program, helping provide engaging educational and recreational experiences for children throughout the summer.
Each summer, the Somerville YMCA serves approximately 170 children ages 4 to 13 through full-day programming that combines academic enrichment, STEAM activities, swimming and water safety instruction, outdoor recreation, field trips, and social-emotional learning in a safe, supportive environment. The program also provides working families with reliable, affordable childcare during the summer months.
The Eversource grant will help purchase program supplies, including art materials, science and STEAM activity kits, and other hands-on learning resources that inspire curiosity, creativity, and exploration while ensuring children have access to high-quality summer experiences regardless of their family’s financial circumstances.
“We are incredibly grateful to Eversource for investing in Somerville’s children and families,” said Vladimir Benoit, President and CEO of the Somerville YMCA. “Their generosity helps ensure that every child has the opportunity to learn, build friendships, stay active, and create lasting memories throughout the summer.”
“At Eversource, we’re proud to support organizations like the Somerville YMCA that makes a meaningful difference in the communities we serve,” said Jason Wright, Senior Community Relations Specialist. “The Summer Enrichment Program gives children opportunities to learn, explore and build confidence through engaging educational experiences while giving working families access to reliable, affordable childcare. We’re pleased to help support this important program and the positive impact it has on local children and families.”
The Summer Enrichment Program reflects the YMCA’s commitment to youth development by creating opportunities for children to explore new interests, build confidence, strengthen social connections, and develop skills that support lifelong success. The program also provides nutritious meals and snacks, environmental education through a partnership with the Somerville Community Growing Center, and experiential learning through visits to museums, beaches, and other cultural destinations.
The Somerville YMCA is deeply grateful for Eversource’s continued partnership and commitment to strengthening the communities it serves.
