We are very excited to reopen our doors so we can continue to serve the community. However, there are several guidelines that had to be put into place in order to keep you and our staff safe and healthy. Please note, these guidelines/procedures are subject to change based on new regulations and updated guidance from our state and local board of health. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

  • The building is restricted to 25% capacity with additional guidance to limit the number of people in one space.
  • Respect all signs regarding social distancing and foot traffic direction.
  • Y staff will follow a strict cleaning and disinfecting schedule.
  • Pool time MUST BE RESERVED in 30-minute increments. Pool access will be limited to one person per lane for a maximum of 30-minutes. Aqua aerobics will not be available when we first reopen.
  • Stay at least six feet away from others wherever possible.
  • Members will have access to cleaning materials.
  • Only active Somerville Y members will be allowed to access the facility. All guests, and Nationwide Members (members from other Ys), etc. are suspended until further notice. NO EXCEPTIONS!
  • Locker Rooms are available for use upon reopening, but saunas/steam rooms are NOT available. Shower are only members planning to use the pool.
  • Members must wipe down equipment before and after your workout.
  • ALL members are required to reserve fitness space ahead of time. This can be done from our website or by calling 617-625-5050.
  • Silver Sneakers classes are not available at this time. We will reevaluate classes beginning October.
  • Allow yourself more time than usual to enter and exit the facility.
  • Some areas may be unavailable for use based on capacity constraints and or additional guidelines.
  • If you have items in your overnight locker that you wish to get, please see a Somerville Y staff member for assistance.
  • In the fitness areas you may see a green/red color coded system to indicate what machines are clean and ready to use and what is not to be used.

Green = OK to use.                   Red = unavailable to                 use.

  • Fitness Floor staff will be wearing Y STAFF t-shirts.
  • Some Cardio and other machines will be clearly marked out of use to maintain proper social distancing.
  • Our fitness ambassadors will clean machines in-between uses.
  • Y swim or workout accessories/equipment will be very limited. We encourage you to bring your own.

Bring Your Mask Stay Home If You Are Sick Wash/Sanitize Your Hands
  • Initially, we are requesting that members wear their masks at all times when in the facility. The only exception will be swimmers in the water.
  • Our staff, members, and children participating in Child Care are encouraged to stay home if they’re sick.
  • We are reducing touch points to reduce cross-contamination.
  • Staff will also be required to wear masks at all times.
  • Prior to entering the facility for the first time, you will be asked to sign an updated waiver of liability. Please sign this before you come in for easier access.
  • We are moving toward a paperless environment, therefore most forms you may have filled out in the past are either digital or have been eliminated altogether.
  • Children in our Child Care programs are required to follow guidance from EEC about masks.
  • Upon entering the facility for each shift, Y staff will have their temperature taken and be asked questions about their current health status and exposure to COVID-19.
  • Wash your hands frequently.
  • Limit the items you carry into the facility.
  • Hand sanitizer will be available throughout the building.

We want to keep our doors open for as many members as possible. Doing so means taking safety seriously. Please note that any member who fails to comply with these guidelines may be asked to leave the facility. Thank you all so much for your cooperation!
